Sea Group - Garena, Shoppee, Airpay

Sea Group is a Singapore based startup unicorn founded by its current chairman and group CEO, Forrest Li in 2009. Sea Group's primary business is Garena+ gaming gateway which is an online game and social platform for gamers to discover, download and play online games.

Today, Sea Group has diversified business from just gaming to e-commerce and payment through brands such as Shoppee and Airpay. Recently the company's e-commerce venture, Shoppee has come under heavy scrutiny for weighing down overall profitability.

Shoppee is still in early growth stage and is challenged by other e-commerce companies such as Lazada, Alibaba and Tokopedia especially in the critical Indonesian market. The high customer acquisition and retention cost is raising concerns of both the board members and investors alike.

On the contrary the group's gaming business continues to deliver strong performance countering losses of other businesses. The company exclusively distributes game titles on Garena+ in various countries across Southeast Asia and Taiwan, such as the multiplayer online battle arena games- League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth, the online soccer game - FIFA Online 3 and the first-person shooter games - Point Blank and Alliance of Valiant Arms.

In October 2017, the company went IPO at US$15 per share on NYSE and raised almost US$900 million. Overall the shares have been trading lower between the range of US$10 to US$13 since IPO but is on upward trend since last quarter.

Current Company Valuation - US$4 Billion
