Traveloka is an Indonesian based travel aggregator for flights and accommodations. The company was founded by Derianto Kusuma, Ferry Unardi and Albert Zhang in 2012 to address a service gap in the domestic travel industry particularly when it comes to connecting lesser known inbound routes.
What initially began with a search engine to simply compare flight prices, later evolved into a centralised reservation and booking platform for Traveloka users. As user base increased a similar booking service was introduced for hotel rooms and short stay apartments in 2014.
Traveloka is currently ranked as the tenth most popular travel site in the world, neck to neck with low cost carrier, AirAsia. Other competitors are Agoda.com, Booking.com, Travelocity and Skyscanner, all vying for a slice of the travel market in Southeast Asia.
Indonesia remains as Traveloka's key revenue contributor but other territories such as Vietnam and Thailand are gaining promising momentum in the recent years.
Overall 2018 has been fairly a quiet year for Traveloka with no major business announcements except for the unusual collaboration with two other major Indonesian Unicorns, Go Jek and Tokopedia to back online insurer 'Pasarpolis'.
Traveloka's investors range from Expedia Inc., East Ventures, Hillhouse Capital Group, JD.com and Sequoia Capital.
